John Adey is President of the American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC). Prior to joining ABYC in 2002, John owned and operated a marine supply and fishing tackle business in New Jersey with his wife Lauri. He also worked in marina management and brokerage services.

An ABYC Certified Master Technician, John is widely respected for his far-reaching technical expertise in boat construction and repair as well as his ability to work with diverse interests in the recreational boating arena. John has been published and quoted in multiple industry publications and is a prolific industry presenter, including such events as IBEX, ELEVATE, the USCG Risk Mitigation Series, the Educator Training Conference, the International Boating and Water Safety Summit, the Marine Law Symposium, and Sur/Tech.

With a Master’s Degree in Business Administration with a specialty in nonprofit organization management, John is also Vice-Chair of the USCG Boating Safety Advisory Committee, a Red Cross certified lifeguard instructor/trainer, and an avid Chesapeake Bay boater.
